Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the neuro-musculo-skeletal system and the effects of these disorders on general health, including complaints but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches. The definition of chiropractic treatment by American Medical Association (AMA) is:<br />
<blockquote>Chiropractic manipulative treatment is a form of manual treatment to influence joint and neuro physiological function. This treatment may be accomplished using a variety of techniques.</blockquote>A chiropractor mainly use a section of the ICD-10 codes. ICDs are a part of diagnoses coding system mainly uses letters and numbers, first comes the letter of the block that mainly abbreviates the general area of the disease. "M" for example can be used to designate musculoskeletal system and connective tissue. The letter is usually followed by two numbers separated by a decimal place.<br />

<h2>ICD-10 Codes for Chiropractors</h2>The ICD-10, or International Classification of Disease, is the 10th revision of the set of codes developed by the World Health Organization to classify disease by giving each health condition its own alphanumeric code. <br />

ICD codes are used in medical schemes to determine what patients are entitled to and treated for so that claims can be properly settled. If wrong ICD codes are used, which describe the wrong condition, there can be problems with payments. Many chiropractors are worried that ICD-10 codes do not accurately describe common diagnoses made by them, and improper codes can mean legal action against them.<br />
<br />
<h3>Chapter 13 Block M</h3>Chapter 13 of ICD-10 is mainly dedicated to diseases of the musculoskeletal system and the connective tissue. It is mainly divided into 6 main sections four of which are of utmost importance to chiropractors. <br />
<br />
Division M00 to M25 is designated as "Arthropathies" and mainly used when coding diseases related to the joints. M40 to M54 icd-10 codes are entitled as "Dorsopathies" and are mainly concerned with all illnesses associated with the spine. M80 to M94 ICD-10 codes on the other hand are designated to all illnesses associated with t bones and cartilage diseases and commonly referred to as "Osteopathies" and "Chondropathies".<br />

The last section is titled as "other disorders" and deals with other musculo-skeletal issues not covered in the above categories.<br />
<br />
<h3>Chapter 17 Block Q</h3>Chapter 17 is another category of ICD-10 codes of importance to chiropractors; it is titled "Congenital Malformations", Deformations and chromosomal Abnormalities and mainly deals with birth defects. <br />
<br />
This chapter comes with many codes but ICD-10 codes from Q65 to Q79 are of the most importance to chiropractors. This subsection mainly deals with limbs that were malformed or missing since birth.<br />
<br />
<h3>Chapter 19 Blocks S and T</h3>Blocks S and T in chapter 19 also come with ICD-10 codes of importance to chiropractors under the title of Injury Poisoning and certain other consequences of external causes. These ICD codes mainly deal with trauma related injuries. <br />
<br />
Chiropractors in this section will mainly be concerned with subsections in sections 2 to 12 or blocks S00 to T14. These blocks of ICD 10 codes mainly deal with sprains fractures and dislocations of all the bones down from the neck to the feet.<br />
<br />
<h3>Chapter 20 Blocks V, W, X and Y</h3>Chapter 20 presents’ blocks V W X and Y entitled as External causes of morbidity and mortality. Block V is the one of the most importance to chiropractors as it deals with transportation accidents. This is mainly concerned with injuries protracted from a motor accident or when injured by a moving vehicle. <br />
<br />
This ICD code does not cover injuries protracted while working on a vehicle. Sections W00 to W64 on the other hand cover accidents such as those incurred in sports or falling off from a place. Blocks X60 to Y09 deal with any self inflicted harm or harm caused by assault.<br />
<br />
<h2>ICD-10CM Codes for Chiropractors</h2>Because 95 percent of the ICD-10-CM codes do not map one-to-one, the new list will look very different. Selection of the correct codes will depend on the payer, not GEMs. Payers will have to rewrite their guidelines around the new codes. <br />
<br />
For now, coders and providers must simply do their best to get familiar with the new system and make calculated guesses. The Chiropractic ICD-9 CM codes currently in use, mainly come from:<br />
<ul><li><b>Chapter 6</b>: Diseases of the Nervous System (320-389); </li>
<li><b>Chapter 13</b>: Diseases of the Musculoskeletal System and Connective Tissue (710-739); </li>
<li><b>Chapter 16</b>: Symptoms, Signs, and Ill-defined Conditions (780-799); and </li>
<li><b>Chapter 17</b>: Injury and Poisoning (800-999).</li>
</ul>Based on this ICD-9 CM codes information, the equivalent ICD-10-CM chapters for Chiropractors and relevant blocks are given as follows:<br />
